Ingredient Tips

One of the biggest hurdles to getting started cooking in Korea is knowing where to find the ingredients you're used to, how to recognize them in their foreign packaging, and what to replace them with if they're not available. As a general rule, between Costco, the expanding international selections at regular Korean grocery chains, International markets in Itaewon, and iherb.com you can find nearly all of the food products you're used to in the US, but you might find that some things are too exorbitantly priced or that the alternative stores are too hard to get to. Below is an alphabetized list of some of the most common ingredients requested in recipes here or simply often asked after within the foreign community along with linked information on where to find them and what's different about them.
