All of the recipes on the site are listed in traditional
American measures, metric measures, or both. Please be aware that what is called a "cup," "tablespoon," etc. differs between countries. The traditional American 'cup' is equivalent to 8 fluid ounces
* or 240 mL. A list of useful measure equivalents is listed below should you need it for splitting a recipe.
- 1 tablespoon = 1/2 fluid ounce (fl. oz.)
- 3 teaspoons (tsp.) = 1 tablespoon (Tbs./T.)
- 4 tablespoons = 1/4 cup
- 16 teaspoons = 1/3 cup
- 2 cups = 1 pint
- 4 cups = quart
- 4 quarts = 1 gallon
- 1 stick of butter = 1/2 cup or 120 grams
- 16 ounces (oz.) = 1 pound
- jigger = 3 tablespoons or 1.5 fluid ounces
As American recipes tend to measure the majority of ingredients by volume there is not one easy conversion for changing a recipe to metric measures, which use mass/weight for measuring most dry ingredients. A useful reference to keep on hand for this task can be found (
here) at this page created by John Ward.

*Please note that fluid ounces are a measure of volume and are
not equivalent to ounces which are a measure of weight
